Are You Dumb?

If you are an organizational leader, biz owner, manager, or person who makes decisions for people (instead of with them), I want to know if you’re dumb. And I have 3 questions:

1) Do you think having a remote workforce (even if only a %) is more cost effective than maintaining an office building?
2) Do you think morale would be more positive if people were given control and freedom to determine how best to be successful in their career and fulfilled in their life?
3) Do you think the organization would be more relevant (in the industry and socially) if trusting the employees were more important than controlling them.

A Job Description Is Not A People Description

A job description does not define who you are or what you have going on in your life. Stop allowing employers to force you to believe your job is who you are….

Demands & Control

What are things you HAVE to do in your life every week? What are the things you WANT to do in your life every week? Which was easier to answer? Which is easier to achieve?

Are You Supported To Be Successful?

Have you ever been asked your thoughts about how you can be successful in your career? Has an organization ever asked you to design your job so you feel motivated and fulfilled? If not, why not?

A Common Plea For Common Sense

Today my good friend, Joe Longo, talks about photography, nature, technology, and how the way we work just makes no damn sense!

Death, Time Zones, & Creative Employees

OK, I admittedly get a little excited during this blog post. However, when I find myself in conversations about changing the way we are forced to work, I often leave out some of the most common absurdities found in a lot of organizations. What do you think?

And yes, that is my wife Justine, being all stealth-like behind me.

Be Productive

How often have you heard workplace comments about where you should be, when you can go, what time you came in, how long your lunch was…WHERE ARE YOU!!!!

Next time you hear any of those, simply respond, “I’m being productive.” (it helps if you actually are, though)

Social Connecting

Have an idea? Wonder what other people may think? As I try to help change the way people work, I find the more I communicate (Facebook, Tweet, Blog, etc.) about it, the more people come out of the “webwork” (should I coin that?) It is so easy to connect with people who are inspired and energized about similar movements, causes, ideas, innovations, art, etc….

Only If You Ask & Only When Life Is Hard

I don’t get it. If you have the resources, the drive, and permission to work how you “need to” when life gets tough, what is your employer’s rationale for not providing you with that level of control and freedom all the time? So, no matter what is happening in YOUR life, you do what you need to do AND get your work done.

Work Is Just Something I Do And Enjoy…Now!

So, I played a little trick on my circle of friends and family…errr….I mean I conducted a social experiment! Lastnight, I did something completely crazy. I took my laptop with me to a social gathering.
